They are unable to acclimate to the local culture.
Think black and hispanic waitresses that make less than $1US an hour (and almost no tips) being told to redo food and confusing them with demands and questions.
They will go back to the States and tell everyone what good deeds they did (they are giving out second hand shoes from thrift in the United States) and then get acceptance letters and full ride sponsorships to colleges and universities that their parents can easily afford... meanwhile everyone they meet here will be living on <500$US a month - and most on <100$ a month - for the rest of their lives.
