I lived in Belize for the first 6 months or so of my exile. A small home (that I still have) near Belize City. I was by myself.
The State Department has a Level 3 Travel Advisory for Belize City (had it the entire time I was there). I kept getting notifications of literally every crime and it fucking annoyed me.
Personally, I never experienced any major issues. The email notifications kept warning me that the United States would not help me if something happened (while in Belize City only -the rest of the country is a Level 2 Travel Advisory).
It's a joke of a system and will simply make it so you fear going out and exploring.
