The first craft to attempt to reach the moon, since Apollo landed "on the moon" went completely wrong.
So, my question is, how exactly did Apollo reach the moon so easily all those many years ago, while this unmanned (but with the ash remains of several individuals) craft couldn't even reach a few hours outside of Earth's atmosphere?
Also, since the Apollo mission "worked" so perfectly, why didn't they just keep the design and use that -if it isn't broken, don't fix it.
